Supreme Court of India while dealing with an issue where a trademark of the name of a holy book “Ramyana” was atempted to be registered for selling goods namely incense sticks and perfumes ,has ruled that
names of gods or holy books cannot be trademarked to sell goods and services, as allowing such a thing could offend people’s sensibilities.
The court said that as per the law, one cannot take advantage of gods and goddesses to sell products.
